END OF ACT II
What is the measure of success for a podcast?
Is it the number of downloads? The number of deadlines met?
Is it the quality of output? The people you met along the way?
Is it being able to monetize your efforts in some way?
Is it creating something that will endure?
When I set out to create this podcast, I wanted a place to put pent up, frustrated energy into something constructive. Talking with my peers who were in somewhat the same boat was a way to do that. Some were ahead of me on the playwriting path, some were not. But my hope is that these conversations would help build the community of playwrights toiling in Boston.
As you can see in the graphic above, there is a diverse and talented pool of playwrights working in Boston. (Look at all of them! The things they’ve already accomplished. The things they could do if given the chance!) I have barely scratched the surface of the talent pool in Boston. Hopefully others will pick up the reins for Season 3 and beyond. (Perhaps you, yes you, may be one of those others. Email me if you are interested.)
There are other playwrights that have been around and writing that haven’t been gotten to yet, others who have just emerged, others who are in new in town. Indeed at least four of the playwrights in the graphic have since moved on from Boston. I didn’t stop for lack of people to talk to.
I have said most of the things I wanted to say at the outset of the process of creating this podcast. It’s time for another point of view. I’m hoping that these episodes have sparked ideas or connections among the listeners.
My act is closing here, but the overall story is just beginning. Good things are happening in Boston. You just have to be on the lookout.
